Archery tibits and general Info
Hello,
These are the current specifics regarding Gyldenholt archery practices. What days are practice?
Archery practice has been (mostly) every Sunday for about two years now. I say mostly every Sunday because if there is a major Caidan event, practice is usually cancelled. Practice is also cancelled when Finn, The Captain of Archers is unavailable due to work. However, there have been times when Baron Ursul is able to marshal, thus keeping practice open. That said--even if there is no formal baronial archery practice, individuals can go out to the range on their own and practice at their leisure with their own equipment. What time and where is practice?
Practice starts at ten o'clock. Archers meet at the archery range at Mile Square Park in Fountain Valley at about ten. Please allow Finn a few minutes leeway due to modern traffic concerns. The range is open to the general public, so archery butts may be limited from time to time. Also, please note that the range is subject to reservation and has, though rarely, been reserved for a private group thus turning us away. What about gear/equipment?
The barony does have a small amount of loaner equipment. However, archery practices have, for the most part, been poorly attended in the last two years. Hauling all the loaner gear out to practice to not have any one use it is difficult. So, if you know that you're going to need loaner gear, and you know that you will be attending practice, please RSVP directly to The Captain of Archers. He'll be happy to bring out what equipment the Barony has to lend.
If you have your own equipment, please feel free to bring it. Targets are provided by the barony.Do I have to be authorized to shoot?
No. In fact, all levels of experience are encouraged to come out and give archery a try. Authorization is a two-part process. If after practicing you are interested in authorization, please let The Captain of Archers know, either in person or by e-mail.How old do I have to be to shoot?
Archers have to be able to follow directions, and be responsible with the bow--otherwise just about anyone can shoot. Archers under the age of 18 must have a legal guardian present. If you have a child under the age of 14 who is interested in shooting, please contact The Captain of Archers for more information.Where I can find out more about Caidan archery? The Kingdom Archery Handbook has a TON of information on kingdom archery, including field guidelines, participation guidelines, awards, et cetera. You can view the handbook online at http://archers.sca-caid.org/archers_handbook.html
How can I find out/double check if practice is happening this week?
Practice reminders are sent out regularly from the Baronial newsgroup List, as are cancellation notices. If you are ever in doubt as to whether or not practice is happening, do not hesitate to contact The Captain of Archers prior to practice. A word of warning, he typically does NOT check his email the morning of practice prior to heading to the park, so please plan accordingly. What is the best way to be sure about practice?
Please, please, please feel free to RSVP if you are going to be attending practice. When you RSVP, Finn will have your contact information so that, should a problem arise, he can keep you in the loop regarding practice for that week. Also, RSVP-ing can help to make sure that you'll have equipment available to borrow should you need it. Sure, you can just show up without a RSVP, but RSVP-ing helps everyone.Anything else?
If you do not see your question answered here, please do not hesitate to contact The Captain of Archers directly. Thank you.
