CALAFIA/GYLDENHOLT FRIENDSHIP TOURNEY

The Baronies of Calafia and Gyldenholt invite the populace of Caid to join them in celebrating Friendship. This year's celebration will have a Scottish theme! So pleats your kilt and polish up your pipes! There will be highland games, and bagpipes, fighting, shopping, food and fun!. There will be a lunch for $5. Merchants are welcome and encouraged.

Site: Bates Nut Farm, 15954 Woods Valley Rd., Valley Center, CA., 92082.

Site opens: 8:00 AM

Site Closes: 5:00 PM

Site fee(s): $6, $3 non-member surcharge. Make checks payable to SCA, Inc. - Barony of Calafia.

Directions:
I-5 South or north to HWY 78. Take Hwy 78 east to city of escondido. Freeway will end at Broadway. Turn right on Broadway, go 2 traffic lights to washington. Turn left on Washington and travel approximately 2 1/2 miles to the traffic light at El Norte Parkway.Turn right on El Norte Parkway. Travel to Valley Parkway and turn left on Valley Parkway, continue 6 miles- it will go up hill gradually(currently under construction). At first traffic light- Woods Vallye Road, turn right. Continue on Woods Valley Road for approximately 3.5 miles. Bates Nut Farm is on the left.

I-15 North to Via Rancho Parkway offramp: At the end of off ramp, turn right heading east on Via Rancho Parkway. Continue east for approximately 6 miles(Note; Via Rancho Parkway changes in name to Bear Valley Parkway). Bear Valley Parkway will dead-end at East Valley Parkway, turn right. Continue approximately6 miles up grade(currently under construction) to Woods Valley Road. Woods Valley Road will only turn right. Stay on Woods Valley Road for approximately 3.5 miles. Bates Nut Farm is on the left.

Princess Equestrian Championship in the Barony of Gyldenholt

The Barony of Gyldenholt has the pleasure of hosting a tournament to determine which rider and steed shall have the honor of defending the next Queen of Caid in the arenas of the Known World as Her Equestrian Champion.

Come witness great displays of horsemanship and chivalry at the Prado Equestrian Center: 16629 Johnson Drive, Chino, CA 91710

Event Date: Saturday, April 17th, 2010

Site opens: 8:00 am
Warm up: 9:00 am
Opening Court: 10:00 am or at the Royals’ Pleasure
Procession and tourney begins about 20 minutes after court
Closing Court: about 20 minutes after tourney ends or at the Royals’ Pleasure
Site closes: 5:00 pm

Directions to the Site:
Take your preferred route to the 71 Corona Freeway. Exit at Euclid/Butterfield Ranch Road and go East for about 1 mile, past the main entrance to Prado Regional Park. Turn right onto Pine Avenue then right on Johnson Avenue .

Rental horses are available for the event and should be reserved in advance. Limited over-night stabling is also available and must be reserved in advance. For costs and reservations, please contact Prado Equestrian Center directly at 909-597-5757.

Site fee is $5 for adult SCA members. Children under 12 are guests of the Barony. There is a $3 surcharge for non-members. Make checks payable to “SCA/Barony of Gyldenholt.”

Gyldenholt Baron's Feast

To all the good people of Caid, His Excellency Baron Ursul Vladislavl’ Pravnuk wishes to welcome one and all to Gyldenholt's annual Baron’s Feast on April, 25, 2010. Following last year's successful festivities, this year we will once again be holding 3 tournaments.

Yes that is right we will once again recognize a champion of horseshoes, bocce and croquet. If those sports are not you cup of tea do not fear there is ample space for any sort of card or board game you might desire( period games are encouraged but not mandatory). The feast will include two meals, both lunch and dinner, we would love to see as many of you there to join in with us in our festivities.

Once again we will be at Irvine Regional Park at group area #3, 1 Irvine Park Rd. Orange Ca. 92862. The full meals will consist of a late morning snack, lunch, an afternoon snack and an early dinner. You will not go away hungry! Although the menu is still in the final planning stages, there will also be plenty of food for our vegearian friends. When it is completed it will be posted on the Gyldenholt web page for you to see.

The fee for the day is $15 for adults 13 and older, $10 for children 6-12, and children 5 and under will be guests of the Barony. If you wish to join us but bring your own food there will be a $5 off board fee (all also subject to the $3 non-member fee). Please make all checks payable to the S.C.A. inc./Barony of Gyldenholt.

Directions

From the north:
Take you best route to Chapman Ave in Orange and head east toward the hills. You will past the college and turn left on Jamboree. Follw Jamboree until it deadends at the park and follow the S.C.A. signs to group area 3.

From the South:
Exit the 5 freeway at Jamboree and head north. Stay on Jamboree until it deadends at the park, then follow the S.C.A. signs to group area 3.

Please be prepared there is a $5 fee to enter the park.

Gyldenholt Anniversary

Please join our Barony on June 12th, 2010 as we celebrate Gyldenholt's 30th Anniversary. The day will be filled with fighting and games and the evening filled with great food. Their Excellencies, Ursul and Colette, will choose Their Champions for heavy weapons, rapier, archery, unarmored, and youth combat so the tourney field will be very busy! There will also be a competition to determine Their Excellencies' Arts and Sciences Champion so come prepared with your A&S entries. More details on other activities will follow in next month's article. After a busy day on the tournament field, we will continue our celebration over a feast prepared by Master Guiseppe Francecso da Borgia.

The tournament will be held at Mile Square Regional Park's Acrchery Range, located at 16801 Euclid, Fountain Valley, CA 92708. From the 405 Freeway, exit Euclid and go north. The park is located approximately 1.5 miles north of the freeway. The Archery Range is located on the Euclid side of the park, approximately half way between Edinger and Warner. There is a park entry fee of $5 so carpooling is encouraged. There is also street parking along Euclid that will allow you to walk to the event site. Mile Square Park is a dry site. Dogs are allowed, but must be kept on leashes.

The evening's feast will be at Murdy Community Center, located at 7000 Norma Dr, Huntington Beach, CA 92647. Maps to Community Center will be provided at the tourney. Murdy Community Center is a wet site. Please contact the event steward to make feast reservations. Space will be limited!

Schedule of the day: 8 AM - tourney site opens
10 AM - opening court (or at TRM's pleasure)
5 PM - closing court (or at TRM's pleasure)
6 PM - feast site opens
11 PM - feast site closes

Event fees: Tourney Only:
$8 ages 12 and over; $4 ages 5-11; children under the age of 5 are guests of the Barony
Feast Only:
$12 ages 5 and over; children under the age of 5 are guests of the Barony
Tourney and Feast:
$20 ages 12 and over; $16 ages 5-11; children under the age of 5 are guests of the Barony
